VH1 Storytellers es la última actuación con el colaborador y guitarrista Reeves Gabrels , a quien Bowie había conocido en 1987 y con quien había trabajado desde entonces, incluso en la banda Tin Machine . Gabrels abandonó la banda 4 días después de que se grabara el espectáculo, lo que dejó a Bowie luchando por encontrar un guitarrista principal para su próximo Hours Tour.
